TECHNOLOGY

AERO STABILISING FINS
Aero Stabilising Fins are frequently adopted for controlling vortexes to correct airflow around the vehicle and contribute to the low drag coefficient and improved stability.

Aero Stabilising Fins can often be found near the tail lights, exterior mirrors and spread throughout the underneath of the vehicle.

This feature is not available on all models and grades. Please see the relevant model information.
ADAPTIVE FRONT-LIGHTING SYSTEM (AFS)
Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS) allows the headlights to swivel left and right in response to vehicle speed and steering movements to effectively 'see around corners'.

This is especially effective during night-time country driving where ambient light is low, providing the driver with the vision to see objects on the inside of a corner including pedestrians and animals.

See also ‘Cornering Lights’.

This feature is not available on all models and grades. Please see the relevant model information.
AUTOMATIC HIGH BEAM (AHB)
When activated, Automatic High Beam (AHB) can automatically ‘dip’ your high beams to avoid dazzling other drivers.

A camera mounted to the inside rear-view mirror detects light sources in front of the vehicle and switches the high beams on and off as needed, assisting the driver to achieve ideal vision at night.

The system can detect the headlights of oncoming vehicles, the tail lights of vehicles ahead, and the presence/absence of street lights. It then determines whether or not to activate / deactivate the high beams.

This system relieves the driver from the necessity of continually operating the high beams manually, and prevents the possibility of the high beams being left on due to forgetfulness.

AHB can be active from approximately 25-30km/h (depending on the model) and can be switched on and off.

See also ‘Adaptive High-beam System’.

This feature is not available on all models and grades. Please see the relevant model information.
AUTOMATIC LANE CHANGE FLASHER
The Automatic Lane Change Flasher operates the indicators a set number of times when the indicator is moved into the lane change position, without the driver having to hold it in position.

This provides an ideal notification to surrounding vehicles without the driver having to hold the indicator in position.

The number of flashes can be customised for most models by your Lexus Dealer.

See also ‘Momentary Indicator’.

This feature is not available on all models and grades. Please see the relevant model information.
AUTOMATIC LEVELLING HEADLIGHTS
Due to the brighter light emitted by Lexus’ advanced headlight systems, Automatic Levelling Headlights are available to automatically make vertical adjustments in response to vehicle speed, height and angle (e.g. when additional passenger / luggage weight is present in the rear) to ensure optimal lighting and avoid glaring for oncoming vehicles.

This feature is not available on all models and grades. Please see the relevant model information.
BI-HALOGEN/BI-XENON/BI-HID/BI-LED HEADLIGHTS
Headlights with ‘Bi’ functionality utilise a single headlight bulb for both high and low-beam light, fusing a unique and efficient design compared to traditional two-bulb designs.

This feature is not available on all models and grades. Please see the relevant model information.
CORNERING LIGHTS
This is especially effective during night-time country driving where ambient light is low, providing the driver with vision to see objects on the inside of a corner including pedestrians and animals.

Drivers will also appreciate the additional vision in tight turning situations like roundabouts and driveways.

This feature is not available on all models and grades. Please see the relevant model information.
DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS (DRLS)
First introduced on the Lexus IS, Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) are bright lights automatically activated to make the vehicle more visible to other motorists and pedestrians in low-light conditions.

As the vehicle is easier to see it reduces the chance of both vehicle-to-vehicle and pedestrian accidents, especially at dawn and dusk.

This feature is not available on all models and grades. Please see the relevant model information.
HALOGEN HEADLIGHTS
A commonly used headlight bulb with good durability and light projection.

This feature is not available on all models and grades. Please see the relevant model information.
HEADLIGHT WASHERS
Fitted to many Lexus models with advanced lighting systems, high pressure headlight washers operate automatically when the windscreen washer is used at night, to keep the headlight surface clean for ideal light distribution.

Also known as Headlight Cleaners. See also ‘LED Headlights’ and ‘HID Headlights’.

This feature is not available on all models and grades. Please see the relevant model information.

HIGH INTENSITY DISCHARGE HEADLIGHTS (HID HEADLIGHTS)
High Intensity Discharge Headlights use ‘Xenon’ headlight bulbs that provide a whiter, brighter and wider light beam compared to conventional bulbs.

This enables increased night-time vision via increased projection distance yet with reduced power use.

See also ‘Automatic Headlights’, ‘Automatic Levelling Headlights’, ‘Bi Headlights’, ‘Halogen Headlights’ and ‘LED Headlights’.

HUMAN MACHINE INTERFACE (HMI)
A key aim for the interior of Lexus models is to create a human-orientated cockpit where the driver can immediately and intuitively understand all the functions and their operation.

To achieve this, designers seek to adapt the machine to the driver, rather than the driver having to adapt to the machine.

The dash and centre console are clearly divided into ‘Display’ and ‘Operation’ zones with the Operation zone centred around the Lexus Remote Touch controller.

The driver can operate the vehicle’s controls intuitively with a natural posture and minimal movement of their body and eyes, almost as if they can control their vehicle with a sixth sense.

This ‘human orientated design’ is a fundamental philosophy of L finesse – Lexus’ design language.

Also known as Human Orientated Design and Ergonomics. See also ‘L finesse’ and ‘Lexus Remote Touch (LRT)’.
LIGHT EMITTING DIODE (LED)/LED HEADLIGHTS
LED Lightbulbs provide faster reaction times, reduced power use, brighter light and longer bulb life compared to conventional bulbs.

Lexus utilises LED lights throughout the vehicle from the tail lights to the interior and even the headlights, with the light produced being closer to natural sunlight for improved durability.

This feature is not available on all models and grades. Please see the relevant model information.
LIGHT GUIDES
LED Light Guides enhance the design and visibility from the rear by providing a surrounding rim to the tail lights.

LED lights point down and sideways rather than outwards, shooting light around the frame of the lit area and creating a unique border.

See also ‘Light Emitting Diode (LED)’.

ORNAMENTATION
Ornamentation refers to the selected areas of the vehicle’s interior that are finished with premium materials, including woodgrain.

Areas can include the centre console, dash, door inserts, window switch bases and steering wheel, which can be finished in exclusive materials like Shimamoku, Bamboo or Laser Cut Wood.

This feature is not available on all models and grades. Please see the relevant model information.
POWER FOLD MIRRORS
Controlled by either an interior switch or automatically activated during locking/unlocking, the exterior mirrors can be electrically folded in towards the car.

This reduces the chance of damage while parked, when reversing into a narrow garage, or simply provides a handy visual reference as to whether the vehicle is locked.

This feature is not available on all models and grades. Please see the relevant model information.
PUDDLE LIGHT
Found on the underside of exterior mirrors or door handles, Puddle Lights illuminate the area of the ground beside the door, helping identify hazards like steep gutters and puddles.

Also known as Ground Lights. See also ‘Approach Lighting’.

This feature is not available on all models and grades. Please see the relevant model information.
SELF-RESTORING PAINT
Developed to work at the molecular level, Self-restoring Paint* exhibits elastic-like qualities and reacts like a spring when scratched to restore itself.

This ensures the long-term quality of both the finish and shine of the paintwork against light scratches from flora and acrylic nails.

Also known as ‘Self-healing Paint’.

*Self-restoring paint contains an outer coating with elastic qualities capable of restoring superficial scratches only.

This feature is not available on all models and grades. Please see the relevant model information.
SONIC PAINT TECHNOLOGY
Exterior colours featuring the Lexus ‘SONIC’ paint coating technology utilise a multiple coat and bake process (up to six coats and four bakes) to achieve a polished metallic texture that had not been possible with existing mass production processes.

The coating film that expresses colour is divided into a design layer mixed with aluminium pigment, and a functional layer of solid colour. The design layer will shrink during the drying process allowing the alignment of aluminium pigment to improve dramatically.

The result is a finely polished, smooth, metal-like texture that will hold the light in any given weather or time condition – sunny, cloudy and even in low light conditions like in the evening.

This feature is not available on all models and grades. Please see the relevant model information.
SPINDLE GRILLE
First hinted at on the LF-Gh Concept Vehicle, then brought to life on the fourth generation GS, the Lexus Spindle grille is the fiercely individualistic face of the Lexus marque.

This feature is not available on all models and grades. Please see the relevant model information.
