SAFETY
Safety to the power of 11
For greater safety and peace of mind, the LS 600hL includes 11 SRS airbags in the four seat version and 10 in the five seat version, to help reduce collision impact. Whiplash injury-lessening front seats are also included as standard. Driver and front passengers have dual stage front SRS airbags, front seat side airbags and SRS knee airbags to help protect lower limbs. SRS rear seat side airbags and full length side curtain-shield airbags help protect the rear outer passengers. The four seat LS 600hL also includes an anti-submarine airbag in the reclining rear seat, to enhance rear seat safety.
Safety systems management
The LS 600hL includes Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM), a breakthrough system which can anticipate and help prevent instability and loss of traction, especially on slippery corners. VDIM integrates the package of safety technologies in the LS 600hL, including the Anti-lock Braking System, Brake Assist, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Traction Control and Vehicle Stability Control.
Pre-collision safety
The Lexus Pre-Collision safety System (PCS)1 helps you avoid accidents and can reduce injury and damage where impact is unavoidable. The PCS is assisted by a radar sensor embedded in the front grille, which monitors the distance of the LS 600hL from objects ahead. If the PCS determines a collision is likely, it pre-emptively retracts the driver and front passenger seatbelts, while arming Brake Assist to help reduce speed. If the driver does not respond and a collision is unavoidable, the system automatically applies Pre-Collision Braking.
Active Cruise Control
In addition to conventional cruise control, the LS 600hL features a vehicle-to-vehicle distance technology known as Active Cruise Control (ACC)2. Pre-set your preferred cruising speed using touch controls on the steering wheel. This speed will be maintained until the radar detects another vehicle in your path. ACC will reduce speed accordingly, and will even apply the brakes if necessary. Your nominated speed is resumed once a safe following distance can be maintained.
