An improved driveline, with the increased flexibility of an eight-speed sequential-shift transmission, offers superior performance and fuel economy, making the LS 460 a sheer pleasure to drive. Cutting-edge electronics simultaneously match the optimum gear selection with engine torque. The new to LS Drive Mode Select allows you to optimise your preferred combination of economy, comfort, performance and handling characteristics with five switchable driving modes: ECO, NORMAL, SPORT S, SPORT S+, and COMFORT. In addition, the new LS 460 also produces lower emissions than its predecessor, and has reduced noise, vibration and harshness for a supremely comfortable ride.

Peak performer

A truly great car requires a high performance engine. The
LS 460 has at its heart Lexus' innovative 4.6 litre all-alloy quad cam 32 valve V8 engine, the most technologically advanced internal combustion engine in the Lexus range. It produces an impressive 285kw of power at 6400rpm proving the LS 460 is far more than just a pretty face. Absolute power, however, does not come at the expense of a smooth, quiet and highly efficient ride. Lexus' advanced D-4S port and direct injection system optimises performance and fuel economy and minimises emissions.

Eight speed flexibility

In the LS 460, the driver always enjoys exactly the right gear for any situation with the superior flexibility of the eight-speed sequential-shift transmission. This engineering tour de force uses cutting-edge electronics to simultaneously match the optimum gear selection with engine torque.  Operating in unison with Drive Mode Select, the transmission now offers smoother, more seamless acceleration from a standstill in NORMAL mode, while in SPORT modes the transmission provides greater power more rapidly under full throttle acceleration from a standstill, offering more dynamic acceleration control for a more sporting driving experience.

Enhanced agility

Lexus quality and precision can be felt in every detail of the vehicle's handling. A revised chassis has resulted in a significantly more rigid body which, along with increased steering-support rigidity, improves the LS 460's stability, ride comfort, steering feel and handling agility. An innovative new laser screw welding technique together with body bonding technology further enhances strength, with the end result being a body that's 60% stiffer than even the previous LS. Revising the adaptive variable air suspension systems and the Variable Gear Ratio Steering (VGRS) equipped Electric Power Steering (EPS) further improves steering feel and response. These enhancements are just a taste of the many changes made to the LS 460 to deliver a flatter, road-hugging ride, and all designed to maximise driver enjoyment.

Refined suspension, superior comfort

Lexus engineers have surpassed themselves by refining Lexus' innovative multi-link air suspension system even further. The LS was the first luxury vehicle to adopt a multi-link system to both front and rear suspensions. Now the latest generation system has electronic four-wheel linked control of the Adaptive Variable air Suspension (AVS) system to provide a flatter, more comfortable ride. The AVS also automatically adjusts ground clearance to accommodate different passenger loads and lowers ride height at high speeds for aerodynamic efficiency.

A mode to suit every mood

On the console, a new Drive Mode Select controller gives you a choice of 5 distinct driving characteristics to allow you to personalise your drive, depending on the conditions. In 'NORMAL' mode, the instrument lighting is blue, engine power relative to throttle opening is moderated and suspension is softer, providing the ideal settings for highway and city running. 'ECO' mode ensures the throttle, air conditioning and gear shifting are optimised for economy. 'COMFORT' means precisely that, the AVS suspension is tuned for a smoother ride. Switch to 'SPORT S' mode and the instrumentation changes to red while throttle setting, gearshift and engine power are retuned for sharper response and unleashes the full performance potential by retuning the transmission for quicker acceleration. 'SPORTS S+' ensures the Electric Power Steering (EPS) and Variable Gear Ratio Steering (VGRS) are more responsive, while the Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) becomes firmer for added cornering control.
